ASSIGNMENT: Reader Response: Readers and Writers
Readers & Writers
Good writers read and write a lot. Neil Gaiman is a best selling author of modern comics and books for all ages. The Dictionary of Literary Biography titles him as one of the top ten living post-modern writers. Below, he gives direction to aspiring writers.
Stephen King, an horror and suspense author who has sold more than 350 million copies of his books, comments that he has no patience with aspiring authors who don't read. Watch his comments here:
For this reader response, I would like you to address any or all of the following questions:
- What is the best book that you have read? Why do you consider this THE best book?
- Are you an aspiring writer? Do you blog, journal, or write stories outside of class? What are they about? What inspires you to write? You may share a sample as part of your post.
Your reader responses give you practice with formal writing. DO NOT USE FIRST PERSON! The great part is, you only need to write a paragraph. I expect it to be well organized and well edited. This means you need a topic sentence, details, and a conclusion sentence.
Here is the grading rubric for your reader responses:
-Organization: 10 points (topic sentence, details, conclusion sentence
-Content: 12 points (answers the question/prompt using sufficient details)
-Conventions: 8 points (spelling, punctuation, sentence structure)
