"A Dream Deferred"

The title of the play, A Raisin in the Sun, is taken from a line in a Langston Hughes poem. The poem discusses what happens when a dream is not obtained. Hughes was referring to the American Dream that was not obtainable to the black community. The play takes its title because it explores the American Dream for the Younger family, during the 1950's when segregation and racism were still rampant in American society.
