The Othello exam will include matching, short answer, quote interpretation and one essay question. Here are a few items to review:

  • the themes of Othello
  • be sure that you have read the entire play
  • the conflicts that are in Othello
  • characters, their characteristics and possible foils
  • know what the following terms mean and be able to give examples from the play: diction, irony (dramatic, verbal, and situational), tone, mood, tragedy, tragic hero, tragic flaw, connotation, denotation, pun, aside, soliloquy, motif, symbol, imagery and theme
