ASSIGNMENT--Reader Response on Kurt Vonnegut

READER RESPONSE:Text to Self/World

Read the quote below from the late Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut is considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘...Damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’"

What does this quotation mean to you? Do you agree with Vonnegut? If you could rewrite the last sentence, what would it be? What rule would you give to future generations?
