Protagonists, Antagonists, Foils

Watch this presentation on PROTAGONISTS, ANTAGONISTS, and FOILS. You are encouraged to take notes. These are terms that we will use for the rest of the year.

PROTAGONIST: The main character in a work, on whom the author focuses most of the narrative attention.

ANTAGONIST: A character or force in conflict with the main character, or protagonist. In many stories the conflict between the antagonist and the protagonist is the basis for the plot.

FOIL: A character who provides a contrast to another character.
