Maintaining Biodiversity

There are several reasons for maintaining biodiversity.
  • New kinds of crops may be more nutritious or disease resistant.
  • Plants and bacteria may hold promise for new medicines.
  • Healthy ecosystems mean healthy economies.
  • Once biodiversity is gone, it is gone forever. An ecosystem may be revived, but it is never the same again.
